Agree Guilio. There is a good interview with Mary Davie on the project at Federal News Radio in which she discusses the rational and objectives of the initiative.

There has been a distinct increase in these kinds of initiatives over the past few months. The FCC have a similar ideas platform at http://broadband.ideascale.com in which they are soliciting ideas on the National Broadband plan. Also, California is doing something similar soliciting ideas through Twitter at MyIdea4CA.

I think these are useful methods of increasing citizen engagement and expanding consultation to more diverse groups. The ability to post things using SMS or Twitter facilitates easy interaction and improves the accessibility of the platform.

Such a platform could be the bedrock for many of your Development 2.0 manifesto ideas. A platform like recovery.gov could improve transparency in relation to donor money. Being able to see jobs created per development project and then discuss these could bring greater accountability towards development projects.

Very interesting post, Richard! All of these ideas are very relevant to the development sector, too. Imagine a BetterBuy Project for international development agencies... Food for thought!
